The historic Krueger-Scott Mansion will be reinvigorated with the previous owners' entrepreneurial spirit through co-working, office space, event space, workshops, and community-centric events

Behind the Mansion, new construction will include 66 mixed-income apartments, 16 Maker spaces, a greenhouse, a demonstration & commercial kitchen, a courtyard, and event space.

Makerhoods partnered with two different architects for this project. With their experience in working with historic buildings, HMR Architects worked on creating the rehabilitation plans for the Krueger-Scott Mansion. Garrison Architects designed the plans for the new construction and created the below renderings.

Corner of Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and Court Street

At the corner of Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and Court Street in Newark, the site address is 601 Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. The new construction behind the mansion was designed to complement the historic Krueger-Scott Mansion and add to its prominence.

Court Street

Looking in from Court Street at the entrance to the courtyard, you’ll see a corner Maker Shop and across the way, you’ll see a glass-enclosed greenhouse.

Behind the Krueger-Scott Mansion

On the first floor of the Krueger-Scott Mansion, there will be a large window looking into the courtyard. From this view, you’ll be able to see the two new buildings: the Newark Food Factory, which includes a greenhouse and demonstration and commercial kitchen, and the mix-use building, which includes 66 mixed-income apartments and 10 Maker Shops.

Along Court Street

Along Court Street, passersby will be able to access the Maker Shops through the courtyard and will be able to look at window displays from the Maker Shops.
